One of my good friends, Martha Boehm, just published her first book, Just Keep Growing: 25 Servant Leadership Lessons. I got to be one of her beta readers and if you’re a leader or aspiring leader, I highly encourage you to check it out.
What is Just Keep Growing About?
Just Keep Growing is a book of stories. Each chapter touches on a different aspect of servant leadership, a style of leadership where the leader’s focus is on serving the needs of their teams. Scrum Masters, in the world of agile software development, are servant leaders. They help the team communicate, move quickly, remove roadblocks, and enjoy their time on the team. They’re not there to be authoritative or direct the team because teams are self-directing. Servant leaders are there to make sure their teams have everything they need to be successful. They’re there to coach, curate, and help. I’m a big fan of servant leadership and feel that we’d all be better off if more of our leaders took on a servant leadership mindset.
What’s lovely about Boehm’s book is that in each chapter, she tells a story about a particular aspect of servant leadership so you can see it in action. At the end, she asks some questions and offers suggestions for honing that skill in your servant leadership tool belt. A read through the book offers readers an thorough understanding of 25 leadership skills and how to grow those skills in themselves and others. It’s a great book for leaders or potential leaders of any experience level.
About The Author, Martha Boehm
Martha and I have been friends since high school, where I watched her grow into a wonderful leader on our swim team. She graduated with a Master of Arts before spending a significant amount of time in journalism, later transitioning to marketing at Viterbo University. Throughout the years, she’s known some of the best servant leaders, many of whose stories are sprinkled into the book. She’s also great leader herself. Her next project is a documentary film that she’s shooting in Italy this summer.
Where To Find The Book
