I have a new book: Agile Discovery & Delivery: A Survival Guide for New Software Engineers and Tech Entrepreneurs. This book mirrors the Computer Science Capstone class I teach at UW-Madison. It covers everything I wish I’d known about collaborating on an agile software team when I’d graduated. The book is split into two sections. In Part I: Discovery, I cover the agile principles and what makes an agile team high-performing. Then I move onto how to run a Discovery Phase. I discuss frameworks for figuring out what to build like Lean Start-up, Design Thinking, and Google Design Sprints. Then, we dive into practical topics in the Part II: Delivery section. Part II covers how agile teams build products using frameworks like Scrum and Kanban as well as an overview on various practices like pairing, branching, and agile at scale. You can read a more detailed version of the outline here.
My aim is to help students, engineers, and entrepreneurs in their first or second jobs hit the ground running and find great places to work.
