On July 18th, I published the eBook version of my new book, Agile Discovery & Delivery: A Survival Guide for New Software Engineers & Tech Entrepreneurs. Now, the paperback and hardcover copies are available!
And not a moment too soon. I use the book as a teaching aid for my Computer Science Capstone class at UW-Madison, which is starting next month. We’ve got a new batch of 100 students and 10 awesome partners this year!
What’s In The Book?
Agile Discovery & Delivery is all about the “people side” of software development. The book walks readers through the key concepts of agile software development from start to finish. From how agile teams figure out what to build to how they collaborate to build it. It’s the perfect agile development overview for anyone new to the industry.
A few of the key concepts in the book include:
- Understanding the agile principles and why they’re so important for building great products
- Contributing to and forming high-performing, fun agile teams
- Determining what to build using techniques like Lean Start-up, Design Thinking, and Google Design Sprints
- Interviewing your target customers to gain valuable product insights
- Writing great user stories
- Mastering key agile delivery frameworks like Scrum and Kanban
- Understanding how to estimate, pair program, branch & merge, and work in a scaled agile environment
- Surviving and thriving on agile teams with actionable tips in every section
It’s a great book for new graduates, and also anyone working adjacent to software teams who want to understand how they work better.
