Record An Audiobook with Hindenburg – Part V: Uploading to Findaway Voices / Voices by INaudio

INaudio / Findaway Voices Audiobooks

I recently finished and published the audiobook for my book, Agile Discovery & Delivery, through Amazon’s Audible and Findaway Voices/Voices by INaudio (Spotify). Based on a recommendation from my favorite author podcaster, Joanna Penn, I recorded and largely edited my book with Hindenburg Narrator. It worked pretty well and since I’ve been getting a lot of questions about creating an audiobook, I decided to put together an audiobook series. If you’re just beginning your audiobook process, you may want to go back and read the first four blog posts: Part I (choosing tools & setting up your studio), Part II (recording your audiobook), Part III (editing your audiobook) and Part IV (exporting and uploading your audiobook to ACX). In this article, I’ll be describing how to upload your audiobook to Spotify and other distributors through Findaway Voices (which is changing to Voices by INaudio August 1, 2025).

What is Voices by INaudio / Findaway Voices?

From here on out, I’ll just use “INaudio” to describe this service. INaudio is a platform that allows indie authors to distribute their audiobooks through up to 25 different retailers including Spotify, Apple, and Walmart. You can even publish to Audible from INaudio, but I had already published on Amazon, so I was mostly looking for a way to reach the other distributors.

Advantages of Distributing Through INaudio?

One of the best advantages of distributing through INaudio is that you get better royalty rates. You will get 80% royalties on each book versus just 20-40% on Amazon’s ACX. In addition, they distribute through many, many partners. As of today, their partner list looks like this (please click through here to find an up-to-date list).

But most people use INaudio to get onto Spotify.

How To Upload to INaudio

Findaway Voices / Voices by INaudio Audio Upload Page

Here are the steps to take to upload your book to INaudio:

  1. You can use the same files you created for ACX. If you haven’t created your audio files yet, please check-out Part IV of my audiobook series.
  2. Create an account for Findaway Voices (which may change to Voices by INaudio after August 1, 2025).
  3. Input your book name and other metadata. Most of this you can copy from your current sales pages / key words. If you’ve already published through Amazon or Ingram Spark, this process will look very familiar.
  4. Upload your book files. INaudio’s file upload page looks different from ACX. They have the following sections and here’s how they relate to your files.
    • Opening Credits – Upload your opening credits file.
    • Front Matter – I left this section empty. During my research on audiobooks, I’d found that most audiobooks don’t include any front matter except for perhaps the dedication. I included my dedication in my opening credits file.
    • Body Matter – This is where you’ll upload all of your chapter files, in order.
    • Back Matter – I left this section empty.
    • Ending Credits – Upload your closing credits here.
    • Retail Sample – Upload your retail sample here. It should be less than five minutes and is typically the first 4-5 minutes of your book.
  5. Choose where you distribute your audiobook. Since my book is already published on ACX, I removed Audible from the list and kept distribution for all other distributors.

INaudio Audiobook Review

Just like ACX, Findaway Voices / INaudio claims to take up to 10 days to review your book before publishing it. I submitted my book to quality control on July 3rd. On July 8th, I got an email saying that it passed and would soon be published to all distributors, including Spotify. That same day, I was told that it would appear at “most retailers” in 2-4 weeks. I kept checking Spotify and it finally appeared there on July 11.

I hope that gives you a good sense of what the audiobook process looks like with Findaway Voices / Voices by INaudio. If you have any questions, please let me know, and share this with your author friends who may be struggling to put together their own audiobooks!
