I’m having trouble making sense of everything that’s going on right now. The protests last week were amazing, but it’s an ongoing struggle to stay sane these days. So, instead of writing my regular blog post today, please enjoy this poem I wrote to help me cope with current events.
Has The World Gone Mad?
Has the world gone mad?
In the blink of an eye, we’ve all been handcuffed
Like Abrego Garcia.
Innocent, but hauled away into a dark place that didn’t exist before.
Gaslit, blasted with unconscionable actions
With even more unconscionable repercussions.
Must I endure this whiplash, knowing everything should be overturned soon?
By the courts. Where are the courts?
Oh, they’re struggling to keep up.
Struggling to enforce their decisions.
Tiny fractals of hope come through daily,
Then are crushed by dozens of terrible decisions.
What’s your end game, Trump?
Why pull us through the mud?
Why break us down?
Government so stupid they can’t even get a simple trade formula right.
It’s just math.
Ignoring the experts.
Ignoring the voters.
Ignoring all sense of decency.
For what?
For money. We worship money.
And yet, I watch as our collective wealth evaporates, quick as a child’s soap bubble in the sky.
I watch as everything I’ve worked for falls away, piece by piece.
Forget equality.
Forget retirement.
Forget affordable healthcare.
Forget love, peace, and making something greater than yourself.
Those things can be stripped away in an instant.
And the splash zone is worldwide.
Run away if you want, but you’re still going to get wet.
Maybe you’ll get killed. Maybe we’ll all be killed?
Why on earth hasn’t Congress done something about this?
Spineless, useless representatives that don’t represent us.
Say something (thank you, Cory Booker).
Take back your power of the purse.
Propose impeachment
I just want to hear you talk about it.
Please at least talk about holding those in power accountable.
Give us hope.
Show the world we’re not an evil corporate machine.
Because we’re not.
Show the world we stand for something good.
We used to stand for something good.
We are not Amazon, Walmart, Google, or Netflix.
We’re people.
We’re families.
We’re world citizens who want to contribute positively.
Take away the corporate campaign funding.
Take away the games and the corruption.
Tell the toddlers to return the toys they stole. Take away the bully’s tariffs.
And do it right now.
Every day people’s lives become worse because we let this go on.
Every day people die because we took away funding.
Without warning.
Without mercy.
Who wants to live in a society like that?
Who wants to be part of a global community where it’s every man for himself.
Damn, you realize this never would have happened if we had a woman in charge.
Stop this mess.
Stop the madness.
Please.
Before it’s too late.
